Go On and Laugh Elf Boy (elf on the redneck shelf #3)
DD#4: I spotted a box of gluten-free Rice Crispy cereal the other day and that was justification enough for me to make Rice Crispy Treats. I’ve never made this sticky little delight, but it seemed easy enough considering a six year old can do it. I even threw in some of those little caramel balls for Meteorology Man.
Mixing was a challenge. I must have really been struggling, because MM offered to do it for me. I told him I could do it, how ridiculous. I had my cake pans greased and the wax paper was ready. I started to pour the mixture into the pans. Doesn’t really pour, does it? Anyway, I was balancing the big stainless steel bowl on the edge of the pan and losing control as each second passed, when I started to press the mixture into the pan, instinctively using my bare hand, despite the fact that my trusty wax paper was sitting right next to the bowl.
What a delightful mess.
My hand was coated. I finished the task one handed and proceeded to eat the mess off my other hand, bite by bite.
Even the elf was rolling his eyes. Go on and laugh Elf Boy….
I’ve pinned a sweet little recipe called Grilled Elf Kabobs.

I love those krispies things. Elf kabobs maybe when I’ve recovered.
I haven’t made Rice Krispies treats in fifteen years, not since taking that one cooking class during summer break. They were the worst things I’ve ever put in my mouth. I still don’t know what I did wrong. All I know is that it was an inedible, rock-hard mess. I’ve not been brave enough to try my hand at it again.
I’m personally not a fan of rice krispie treats, but I AM a fan of finding desired treats that are diet/health friendly! When that happens it gives me joy too. And now I am going to be thinking about Elf Kabobs all day.
I love to eat rice krispy treats, but not so much to make them!
I bet elf kabobs have a hint of cinnamon in them, don’t you think? Or nutmeg.
I love your Elf on a Redneck Shelf, they have brought me lots of joy
And I can relate to the whole “gotta eat this mess off my hands” situation when making Rice Krispy treats. I find that spraying the hand I’m going to use to scoop the mixture of the bowl with nonstick cooking spray helps and then pressing the mixture into the pan using a greased piece of foil/wax paper.
I’m snorting as I read this one..
Shame on me for snickering at your struggles. Was it at least tasty? I am so enjoying your elf stories. Truly makes me giggle. Poor elf, he might needs some clothes though. He looks kinda naked on your grill.
I LOVE what you’re doing to that elf!!! Muahahahahahhaha!!!!
I’ve never made Rice Crispy Treats although I’ve thought of it often. They can be quite tasty.
will he fit on one or two kabobs and do you prefer just meat kabobs or do you like your vegges as well? Rice Krispy Treats are the best and easy to make.
So paleo rice crispy treats exist?? The elf looks like he might be a little warm on that shelf – seems to be leaning forward to hop off… hehe!
yay! now you can enjoy them too.
My Elf said to tell your Elf “hello” in Elfinese. And he wishes he could be there to pick at your Krispie Treats. I had no idea he liked those things. I LOVE them and haven’t made them for several years. The best ones I’ve ever had were made with Cocoa Krispies and they were formed into football shapes. I had to restrain myself and only eat two. Or three.
Grilled elf on a spit! YUM! The gluten free rice crispy treats don’t sound all that good.
bahahahahaha…I’m enjoying WickedWildWomanoftheWest. An entirely new side of you!!!!!
@Roadkill_Spatula - I will save some kabobs for when you are feeling better.
@chronic_masticator - You make me feel better. Thank you.
@BohemianLotus - @murisopsis - They are for MM. If I am going to splurge, it will include pumpkin pie cheesecake from McAlister’s Deli.
@aSeriesofFortunateEvents -
@babybug329 - There will be no next time.
I think I will stick to making Christmas candy for the holidays.
@armnatmom - Please laugh, it makes it worth it!
@oceanstarr - I really am having fun with it, I never know what’s next.
@alterEGGO - Gotta have the little corn cobs and bell peppers on those kabobs.
@plantinthewindow - From what was on my hand, it was pretty good. Okay, I might have cleaned off the spoon, too.
@Richgem - I can’t wait to meet your elf! And I may not have been able to resist the cocoa crispy treats.
@Such_are_you - I have loved your enthusiasm during this series! I hope I don’t get too boring along the way.
@ordinarybutloud - I should change my name.
@WildWomanOfTheWest - I think you should wait for a few more days sans paxil. but don’t go by me. i’m the opposite of impulsive, sadly.
@WildWomanOfTheWest - on the other hand, WickedWildWomanoftheWest would make a great alter ego.
@WildWomanOfTheWest - Doubt that will happen…just the idea has me laughing. Elf kabobs…HAHAHAHAHA! I’ll have a couple bottles of Shocktop Ale with mine!
Rice Krispie treats are good, but they are messy to make.
@WildWomanOfTheWest - Lucky for us, there is a very good pre-made product available in the stores!
I’d love to hear about your preferred Christmas candies. I bake cookies, but have yet to venture into candy-making.
There is that nasty, little, dust bunny scattering elf. So cool that you found gluten free rice crispy cereal and made crispy treats. Yummers.
hope the treats came out good.
Hey, what a coincidence. You made Rice Krispie Treats and weren’t the mascots from the old Rice Krispie Cereal commercials 3 little elf like boys? Hmmmmmm…….
grilled elf… ummmm… Not sure they would taste good with the rice crispy treats, but might work.
